Filtering your email

The email from your Yahoo Group can get pretty heavy at times. One way to control the flow is to set your preferences in the YG to Daily Digest.

However,  you may be working on something urgent and want to get your YG messages right away. It may save you time to send messages from your EVO YG directly to a specific folder in your YG mailbox. To do so, you must set up a filter to catch mail as it comes in from your group.

How do I create a filter?

1. To set up a new filter, click Options in the upper-right corner of your Yahoo! Mail page, then click on Mail Options in the pull-down menu. (See Figure 1.)

Figure 1. Mail Options are selected from the Options menu (right upper corner of your email box).

2. From the list that appears on the left side of the page, click Filters (Figure 2).

3. Then in the center of the page that opens, click Create or edit filters.

NOTE: You may find that Yahoo first gives you an error message or wants you to move to Yahoo Classic. Don't worry, this is just a temporary problem, and you will be able to get back to the new Yahoo when you are finished.

4. On the Filters page that opens, click Add, give the filter a name (Fig. 3.1), and choose from a variety of options to automatically direct certain emails into a specific folder (Fig. 3.2). For example, set up a filter so that any emails you get from your EVO YG will go into a folder called "EVO." When you're done, be sure to click Add Filter before leaving the page (see Figure 3.3).

4. If you create more than one filter, for example because you are in several YGs, pay attention to the order Yahoo! Mail lists them. Emails are filtered first by the first filter. This may cause problems if all your YGs have the word "EVO" in them, so you may need to be more specific.
