- Edmodo - possible interactive space
- PBWorks - a tried-and-true content space, e.g., for your syllabus, readings, videos, etc.
- Wikispaces - another possible content space
Meeting spaces
- Google+ Hangouts - good for synchronous meetings under 10 people; unlimited numbers can listen in to Hangouts On Air
- Skype - good for synchronous meetings of small groups; video conference possible
MP3 Skype Recorder - keep a recording of your meetings on Skype

- SurveyMonkey - a survey tool that's great for needs assessment, participant polls, etc.; see also the Polls feature in Yahoo Groups
- Diigo - for social bookmarking - archive favorite websites for your session; see also the Links feature in Yahoo Groups
- Chatwing- design your own embeddable chat room for anyone to join that is safe.
- Blogger - create a community blog
- Facebook groups - open a new Facebook account, or try it out first in your own account
- Wordpress - blog space
- ZeeMaps - embed an interactive map in your blog or wiki to show where your participants are from
- About.me - a place where participants can personalize their introductions
- Jing - lets you instantly create short training videos
