GETTING A YAHOO! ID

Before you can use Yahoo! Groups, you must have a Yahoo! ID. When potential participants of your group Reply to an invitation to join, if they do not already have a Yahoo! ID, they will be sent to this page at https://edit.yahoo.com/registration (Figure 1).

NOTE: All your participants who don't already have a Yahoo! ID will also go through this process. You are welcome to use any parts of this page to help them through the process.

Participants must create a Yahoo email account, but when they join your session, they can use any email they wish. Please refer your participants to their own email preferences which they can reach by clicking Edit Membership next to their name at the top of any YG page, once they have joined and signed in.

Creating your Yahoo! ID

You may find it handy to just use the e-mail handle (Yahoo! username) you have for other e-mail accounts. This simplifies the memory process.

NOTE: Be sure to remember/write down your password. Choose a useless password, not the same one as for your online banking. Yahoo is one of the safest services around, but there's no point in being foolish.

Mobile number

If you forget your PW, Yahoo will text you at the number you designate here. Pull down the list of countries to choose yours.

Optional recovery number

You can have Yahoo send your password recovery to a friend's phone.

All information is required

You have to include a phone number, birthday, and gender -- sorry, the Internet doesn't allow privacy anymore!

Then click the >Create my account box to finish. You should see the page below (Figure 2). Be sure to UNCHECK the "Contact me occasionally..." box (red circle) so that you won't get unwanted mail.

Click on >Get started to create a Yahoo Group, change information in your account, etc.

Please refer to Getting Started with YG, Settings in YG, and other tutorials and help files at the Index page at YAHOO HELP FILES for further instructions on customizing your Yahoo! Group.
